Effective Weinberg Theory
Remarks on QFT and elementary particles
Sorry no cutting edge macroeconomics today. But you might enjoy these reads anyway. Let me know if you’d prefer a podcast format. (I myself prefer reading… I mean reading to myself, not for the public.)
The Effective Weinberg — Edward Witten gave a remarkably easy to comprehend Tea Break Talk for the Galileo Galilei Institute in a seminar in memory of Steven Weinberg. I had some rather juicy thoughts on it all. Not often one gets to quibble with Witten who is quibbling with Weinberg. (Feel free to rate my level of crackpotitude, and write me about it.)
Marvellous Mind of Meyer — Yves Meyer talks about gravity wave observation, but says something very beautiful that you would never expect from someone addressing an oil soaked rich Norwegian audience of elites.
Gromov Definitive — I updated this one, and had a paragraph of macroeconomics. But it ended up having less to do with Misha Gromov and MMT, and more about some fun mathematical “paradoxes”.
On the latter one, I had a look at a wikipedia list of paradoxes, and amazingly (or not!) found none that are true paradoxes of ZFC Set Theory. The universe is safe for now from inconsistency if it is in fact a big Set of stuff. What does this mean for Marxists, postmodernists, Lacanians, and all the rest in lala academic land who insist “the human mind is a big ball of inconsistency”.
I will tell you what it means. It means you cannot model conscious qualia and the like with mathematics. No matter what that concept which looks and feels like a human interface, Donald Hoffman, tells you. Human souls can entertain inconsistent notions, but the human brain is not a qualia, so cannot be inconsistent. If physics were inconsistent or an illusion you can skip all the classes on ecological sustainable macroeconomics, because you can always just think sustainability into existence if you think hard enough. Me? I will be seeing if Gabie from MMLab can allow me to audit the course next year, as a reward for not being filthy rich.
